Talisaynons heave a sigh of relief

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

The Palace says us Pinoys should brace for hard times ahead. Aren’t the hard times already here? Haven’t they, in fact, been with us these many years?

* * *

The Palace also says let’s tighten our belts some more. I hope this never-ending tightening of our belts will not result in us men having waistlines like the hour glass.

It says here that the good milking cows are found in New Zealand. We also have good milking cows in RP. They are the victims of many unscrupulous politicians who know how to milk the cows dry.

“Yessss!” exclaimed a respectable lady I know upon reading in the paper yesterday morning that Joavan Fernandez, described in many news stories as “notorious,” has been arrested and locked up in jail.

Many Cebuanos, especially the residents of Talisay City, heaved a sigh of relief upon knowing of Joavan’s arrest. Many displayed the thumbs up sign not only because Joavan has been locked up in jail but also because it was the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents who nabbed him. The police couldn’t have done it even if they wanted to...

Here is an email, unedited and unexpurgated, which I got some 48 hours before the arrest of Joavan: “There ought to be a law penalizing parents, especially the father, who cannot or refused to discipline a son or daughter who causes harm to the public. If the police could not arrest the abusive son or daughter because of the protection of the parents, the parents must be the ones to be arrested and punished.”

The sender of the above email requested anonymity but he identified himself as a civic club member. He asked me to comment on his point of view. I don’t have much comment to make except to say that he (the reader) must have been too frustrated over one father’s failure to discipline an abusive son. Well, the idea is well taken. Aside from the father he (the reader) has in mind, there must be other fathers like this one father out there.

BOBIT SAYS. “May the Lord bless you with what you pray for; reward you with what you work for; grant you what you hope for; and surprise you with what you have not asked for.”
