Controversial canvassing of bogo votes: Security cameras expose ‘anomaly’

-

Elections are finally over. Some candidates have already conceded and accepted defeat. While some still could not accept their demise hundreds have died because of some election-related violence. There are still several positions in the different places here in the country that is still being hotly contested by powerful and influential political clans.

As expected, a lot of families and relationships were strained just because of the elections. Others had to put their lives and career at stake just to win. Some had to cross party lines.

Elections here in the Philippines have been described as one of the dirtiest and bloodiest. We have earned the notoriety because of the number of deaths and election-related violence is really high.

The process of canvassing is still so long and tedious. The poll automation that was supposed to be implemented did not push through. The electoral process in the country, as described by foreign observers is still way behind. This means that it is still prone to manipulation. I

It's no longer a wonder why candidates, especially from the opposition slate for the senatorial race are guarding their votes so well so as not to be manipulated by the administration.

Too much damage has already been done. It's about time that we move on. Warring clans and parties, I think, should patch things up. Let us not forget to clean up the mess we made especially the posters and other campaign materials that were placed in conspicuous locations that are now eyesores.

While many of us have lost hope on the electoral process here in the country, I still believe that this will change, maybe not in this generation. I love this country, and I will never resort to going abroad just to ward off the hopelessness in our motherland and ruled by the few elite.
