Some advertising tarpaulins have been rolled down ... Good!

The month of October seems to be an unlucky month for Pinoy boxers fighting in foreign lands. Three boxers seeking world titles abroad fell one after the other - in rapid succession. Manny Pacquiao should thank his lucky star he's skedded to fight in November.

But my friend Nick P. says Manny Pacquiao is Manny Pacquiao. "The Pacman doesn't choose the month to fight in and win," Nick says. "Watch Pacman prove this in November," Nick adds.

As I write this (Monday, Oct. 9) my friend Daido Angel has just texted me to inform me that the UV Green Lancers have just beaten Adamson U in the Collegiate League of Champions game in the UST gym (he was there).

"Ang mga nagda sa duwa paras Adamson gikan ra sad sa UV sama nilang Cabahug, Bono ug Hugnatan," Daido said.
* * *
You may call the UV win over Adamson an upset of sorts. Because the organizers of the League seeded the UV Green Lancers No. 10 while the y ranked the Adamson U Falcons No. 7.

"Gimenosan ra silas Green Lancers," my friend Nick P. said. "Tungod lang kay promdi ilang gipaubos sa Falcons ... Bisan layo ra ang record niini sa Lancers."

Nick went on: "Gibangkaw lagi sa promdi nga Lancers ang taga-Manila nga Falcons, tagak!

The Green Lancers will meet next either San Beda or National University. Daido who is a dyed in the wool Sugbuanon said in a text messages: "Kon gaampo ka nga modaug ang UV mas gaampo ko'g sobra kay hastang kalag sa mga nangamatay nang Visayanian giampoan ko."

I have noticed that some giant billboards in the city have their tarpaulins rolled down. The outdoor ad firms who voluntarily did this should be patted on the back. It shows their concern for the safety of the people - a concern arising from the tragedy that happened in Metro Manila where many billboards collapsed killing some people, injuring many others, and destroying public and private properties. This happened when 163-km winds of typhoon Milenyo struck.
* * *
There are still many typhoons coming with still undetermined strength. Some outdoor ad firms did right by rolling down their tarpaulins as precautionary measure.

Let me sign off by quoting this text message I got from topnotch Visayan writer Uriel Cruz Vallecera: "Begin the day with a trusting heart. Give all your concerns to God. Smile a moment and thank God for this new day. He cares for you all the way ... Gud morning!"
