Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero Ballescas -
Today is a very special day within October. Today, we remember with joy the feast of our Lady of the Holy Rosary!

Those who start or include the Rosary within their daily rhythm and schedule can attest to the peace that they experience after praying this. Families who have continued to pray the Rosary together can also witness to their being together through Mama Mary's Holy Rosary.

On this special day, it may be worth tracing the history of the Rosary and this feast day. According to an internet source, " it was in the year 1214 that the Church received the Rosary in its present form and according to the method we use today. It was given to the Church by St. Dominic, who had received it from the Blessed Virgin as a means of converting sinners."

It is further written that after three days and nights of prayer and penance in a forest of Toulouse, our Lady appeared to him, accompanied by three angels, and she said:

"Dear Dominic, do you know which weapon the Blessed Trinity wants to use to reform the world?"

"Oh, my Lady," answered Saint Dominic, "you know far better than I do, because next to your Son Jesus Christ you have always been the chief instrument of our salvation."

Then our Lady replied, "I want you to know that, in this kind of warfare, the principal weapon has always been the Angelic Psalter, which is the foundation-stone of the New Testament. Therefore, if you want to reach these hardened souls and win them over to God, preach my Psalter."

The Rosary then has always been called the Psalter of Jesus and Mary because it has the same number of Hail Marys as there are psalms in the Book of the Psalms of David.

Furthermore, in the Middle Ages, the symbol of joy was the rose. To crown one's head with a garland of roses (a chaplet) was a sign of joy. The Virgin Mary was even called "a garden of roses." In Medieval Latin, a garden of roses is rosarium."

Rather than merely view the Rosary as our bridge for graces and blessings from heaven, we are told that "The Rosary means 'crown of roses.' Every time people say the Rosary devoutly, they place on the heads of Jesus and Mary 153 white roses and sixteen red roses. Being heavenly flowers, these roses will never fade or lose their beauty. "

It is further written that "Our Lady has approved and confirmed this name of the Rosary; she has revealed to several people that each time they say a Hail Mary they are giving her a beautiful rose, and that each complete Rosary makes her a crown of roses."

In the midst of so much turbulence, evil, corruption, and hatred in this world, we are reminded to pray, pray, and pray the Rosary.

On this special day, I especially offer the Holy Rosary and ask Mama Mary and the Lord to bless all of us, especially those given the mandate to lead as stewards, not as kings or queens, and that they lead for God's glory, for God's people, not for themselves.

On this special day, I also continue to extend the hand of peace and the Holy Rosary for Governor Gwen not to personalize the following three essential points that I tried to raise at the PDC meeting:

1) All past and future budgets NEED supporting data;

2) All government funds are people's funds; and

3) All expended funds by any government should be explained to the people in the spirit of transparency and accountability.
