In Mr. Max V. Soliven's By The Way column yesterday, its third paragraph on page 9 should correctly read as follows, since a typographical error had made it appear that only 1,000 Americans had fought in Bataan:
"Of the 78,000 Fil-American troops who retreated to the Bataan peninsula to make their last stand there, no more than 4,000 had been Americans which included the officers of the Scouts, and the only all-American unit, the 31st US Infantry, plus a detachment of horse cavalry from old Fort Stotsenberg."
