MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration will be deploying 28 new border control officers to strengthen the country’s security at the frontline, the BI said yesterday.

In a statement, the BI said the new officers – 14 men and 14 women – were trained on border security and modernized frontline services.

They graduated last March 31 from the Philippine Immigration Academy in Pampanga.

“Our ports are our first line of defense.  We are ensuring that officers are fully prepared prior to deployment,” Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.

“This program equips frontliners not only with knowledge of the law, but also with the discipline, vigilance and integrity required to protect our borders and our people,” he added.

The new officers underwent a six-week mandatory pre-deployment training on core competencies for primary inspection duties at international ports.

Their 240-hour academic instruction covered immigration laws, border control operations, regulatory enforcement, human security and communication skills.

The group also underwent airport exposure and structured military-style exercises to build discipline and operational readiness.
