Angat Dam water continues to recede
MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan, Philippines — Heavy rains in several parts of Bulacan and Metro Manila on Sunday failed to improve the water level at Angat Dam, with officials reporting that yesterday’s level was just 4.54 meters above the critical water elevation.
Data from the Bulacan provincial disaster risk reduction and management office (PDRRMO) showed that the water elevation of the dam yesterday morning was at 164.54 meters.
The figure showed that the dam’s water is already 15.46 meters below its 180-meter minimum operating level.
If the dam’s water elevation falls below the 180-meter level, its four main hydro-powered turbines producing 200 megawatts for the Luzon grid would stop operating, according to the PDRRMO.
It added that the irrigation allocation to Bulacan and parts of Pampanga’s ricelands would be cut off.
Earlier, the National Water Resources Board urged Metro Manila residents to conserve water.
Angat Dam supplies more than 90 percent of the potable water needs of Metro Manila residents.
