MANILA, Philippines — The provincial government of Albay has shared its best practices in handling the unrest of Mayon Volcano with officials of Negros Island, who are dealing with the increased activity of Kanlaon.

Albay provincial administrator Cedric Daep traveled to Negros recently through the invitation of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) to share his experience in “Operation Mayon.”

The initiative aims to spread Albay’s successful disaster management framework in regions with active volcanoes.

The move embodies the spirit of bayanihan, with Albay sharing vital strategies intended at ensuring safety of communities and achieving a “zero casualty” goal.

OCD Administrator Ariel Nepomuceno thanked Daep for sharing Albay’s best practices.

“We are committed to fast-tracking both long- and short-term solutions for the safety of our communities,” Nepomuceno said.

He assured residents that the government would assist local officials and relevant agencies in establishing permanent evacuation centers and relocation areas in anticipation of more eruptions from Kanlaon.

The integration of Albay’s strategies into the disaster management framework of Negros Island is a vital step toward enhancing community safety, Nepomuceno said.
