Metro LGUs enforce ‘heat stroke break’ policy

MANILA, Philippines — To protect traffic enforcers from intense heat, several local government units in Metro Manila will implement the “heat stroke break” policy.
In Malabon, the city government will enforce a 30-minute heat stroke break for traffic enforcers starting today.
City hall reminded Malabon personnel doing field work to stay hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses.
In Manila, Mayor Honey Lacuna ordered heat safety breaks for traffic personnel and barangay watchmen.
The local governments of Pasig and San Juan will also enforce heat stroke breaks.
The Pasig government said enforcers are allowed to take shelter in shaded areas when traffic flow is light.
The city suspended the use of reflective vests from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to prevent heat exhaustion. Enforcers must wear their vests at night for better visibility and safety on the road.
