MANILA, Philippines — Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong has been criticized for taking a swipe at the government’s program providing additional financial assistance to poor residents of the city.

Rep. Mark Go of the lone district of Baguio City yesterday said local chief executives should mind their own business and jurisdictions, and support any assistance provided by the government.

Go made the statement after Magalong criticized the aid disbursement, facilitated by the Office of the House Speaker, under the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program, Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation, and Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers to residents.

The Commission on Elections has barred politicians from involvement in the aid distribution.

“Our role is limited in facilitating these government assistance programs, which are implemented strictly in accordance with the law and existing guidelines. Every peso is accounted for and used solely to benefit those in need,” Go said..

Go is challenging  Magalong for the Baguio mayoral post in the coming elections.
