Angat Dam’s water level drops as dry season starts

MANILA, Philippines — The decrease in the water level in Angat Dam in Bulacan is a normal occurrence as the dry season has started, according to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System.

MWSS department manager Patrick Dizon yesterday gave assurance that water supply for this year is adequate even as temperatures in several areas of the country have been rising.

“Compared to 2024, we don’t see any problem in the water supply this year as there will be no shortage. This year’s elevation in Angat is higher by 12 meters,” Dizon said.

As of 8 a.m. yesterday, the water level in Angat was at 211.13 meters, or down by 18 centimeters from the previous level of 211.37 meters.

The elevation is 87 centimeters below the dam’s normal high water level of 212 meters.

“As of now, the decline in the water level in Angat is slow, but we expect the drop to accelerate in the coming weeks due to high temperatures,” Dizon said.

Angat Dam supplies more than 90 percent of Metro Manila’s potable water needs and provides for the irrigation needs of 25,000 hectares of farmlands in Bulacan and Pampanga.

On Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration officially declared the start of the dry season.
