Malabon launches Tambobong Festival

MANILA, Philippines — The Malabon government launched yesterday the city’s 426th Tambobong Festival with a grand parade, marking the beginning of celebrations for its founding and cityhood anniversaries.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval led the float parade, accompanied by 42 candidates of “Ginoo at Binibining Malabon 2025.”
Twenty floats showcased the city’s history, culture and traditions, turning the parade route into a tapestry of Malabon’s heritage.
“We begin the Tambobong Festival to remind Malabueños of our heritage, traditions and culture,” Sandoval said.
The parade is part of Malabon’s 426th founding anniversary on May 21 and 24th Charter Day on April 21.
An estimated 2,000 people joined the festivities, including basketball player Kobe Paras and actress Angeli Khang, who served as the escort and muse, respectively, for Sandoval and her spouse, former congressman Ricky Sandoval.
Before becoming a city, Malabon was known as Tambobong, named after “labong” or bamboo shoots that grew abundantly in the area.
