PNP to monitor CPP anniversary
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is closely monitoring the Dec. 26 Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) anniversary, traditionally a time of heightened security threats.
Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, PNP public information office chief, said in a press briefing at Camp Crame yesterday that the CPP event is part of their security preparations, especially for isolated and vulnerable police stations in far-flung areas.
She noted that with the recent arrest of leaders and members of communist groups, retaliatory attacks are expected against both the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The PNP, in coordination with the AFP, will intensify its vigilance to protect vulnerable stations.
In Catbalogan City in Samar, a leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in Barangay Cawayan during a clash with soldiers from the 46th Infantry Battalion of the 8th Infantry Division over the weekend.
Capt. Jefferson Mariano, 8th ID Public Affairs Office chief, said government troops recovered a .45-caliber pistol and subversive documents from Artemio Solayao, said to be the leader of Squad 2, Yakal Platoon of the NPA’s Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee.
