Businesses urged: Screen for mpox

MANILA, Philippines — Businesses exposed to mpox such as spas and beauty salons must strictly screen clients and employees, according to the Department of Health.

The DOH on Monday reported six new mpox cases, bringing the number of active cases to 14.

Establishments such as massage parlors, spas, gyms and barber shops should subject customers and staff to strict screening, the DOH said.

“Workplaces that have frequent and prolonged skin-to-skin contact are encouraged to check clients for temperature and other symptoms before any service is provided,” the DOH noted.

Persons deemed suspect, probable or confirmed mpox cases should be denied entry into the establishments, the agency said.

“Clients with mpox symptoms should be rescheduled and symptomatic staff should be advised to stay at home and seek medical help from a licensed physician,” the DOH said.

An appointment scheduling, contactless payment and digital check-in systems are recommended.

In Caloocan, residents with mpox symptoms are advised to stay at home and contact the city’s hotline for guidance.

The first mpox case in Cagayan Valley was confirmed yesterday. The patient has been isolated and is receiving medical care. — Victor Martin
