Investigation of illegal logging in Kalinga urged
Tabuk City, Kalinga ,Philippines – Kalinga Rep. Manuel Agyao and various environmental groups in the province are seeking a no-nonsense investigation into alleged illegal logging operation in their area.
At least 268 pieces of narra flitches totaling to some 3,000 board feet were flagged down in Calanan, Tabuk City Thursday by militiamen from the Civilian Armed Auxiliaries (CAA), which is under the Philippine Army.
Specifically, Agyao is asking for the relief of policemen and military officials involved in illegal logging.
Agyao, who confirms the presence of illegal logging in his province, said some DENR personnel “are colluding with illegal loggers and must be investigated.”
A well-connected person is reportedly behind the illegal logging syndicate in the province.
