Student nabbed for fake kidnap

MANILA, Philippines — A college student was arrested in Lipa, Batangas yesterday for allegedly fabricating his kidnapping to obtain money from his parents.

The student was found by police during a supposed rescue operation in Barangay 1.

During investigation, he admitted faking the incident.

The student’s mother said that shortly after dropping off her son at school on Wednesday morning, she received a message from an unknown account on Facebook Messenger informing her that he had been kidnapped.

She said the “kidnapper” demanded P300,000 in exchange for her son’s release, and that the money must be sent within two hours.

She sought the help of the police after she received videos showing her son blindfolded and crying for help.
