Del Mar denies hand in computer purchases

CEBU CITY Rep. Raul del Mar has denied involvement in alleged irregularities in the purchase of computers for this citys 20 northern barangays.
"It is most unfortunate that somebody filed a complaint against me in the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas for the alleged irregularities in the purchase of computers when everybody knows that we, congressmen and senators, do not have anything to do with the public bidding," Del Mar told The Freeman.
He said his function is only limited to the sourcing of funds for these projects and identifying their beneficiaries, and that the public bidding is left entirely to the implementing agency concerned.
Del Mar said he would not allow anyone to taint his good name as Cebu City congressman for 13 years.
In a two-page complaint, a certain Mariano Nadera of Bacayan, Cebu City, alleged that the 100 computers were overpriced by P100,000 and the purchase was done without the required public bidding.
Besides Del Mar, named in the complaint were his executive staffer Helen Francisco and the supposed winning bidder, Global Trade Development Co., Inc., a Manila-based supplier. Freeman News Service
