Central Luzon flood damage nearing P4 billion

SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The amount of damage caused by severe flooding in Central Luzon is nearing P4 billion, with more than four million people affected, according to the Office of Civil Defense.
The OCD-Central Luzon said the calamity left more than P3.89 billion in damage to agriculture and infrastructure in Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales.
Heavy rainfall caused by the southwest monsoon reasulted in landslides, and toppled trees and infrastructure.
Damage to agriculture was placed at P1.88 billion, affecting 33,762 farmers and fisherfolk, the OCD said.
The bad weather prompted 90 local government units to declare a state of calamity, while school authorities suspended classes.
