Baby back to mom who fed her drops of insecticide

CEBU  Despite being found unfit to be a parent by a psychologist and a psychiatrist, the court granted Jennifer Navarro the other day custody of her child whom she earlier had tried to poison with insecticide.
Regional Trial Court Judge Pampio Abarintos ordered the transfer of custody of baby Nicole from the Department of Social Welfare and Development to her natural mother.
Navarro admitted having tried to poison her baby last Nov. 21 by feeding her drops of insecticide and leaving her inside a safety deposit box in an uptown hotel.
On Dec. 6, Abarintos ruled it best for the child to be placed under the care of DSWD while Navarro underwent psychiatric treatment.
At a summary hearing last Tuesday, psychiatrist Edwin Menguito and psychologist Frederic Boholst testified that while Navarro has no psychotic disorder or is not clinically insane, she is still incapable of responsible parenting.
But Navarro said it is her natural right and obligation to take care of her child and the court apparently recognized that.
But a social worker will closely supervise mother and child.  Freeman News Service
