Muziklaban kicks off nationwide search for next rock champion

MANILA, Philippines — Red Horse Beer has officially opened registrations for the 2026 edition of Pambansang Muziklaban, inviting aspiring Filipino bands from across the country to compete in one of the Philippines' longest-running battle-of-the-bands competitions.
Following a successful 2025 season that drew hundreds of aspiring musicians, the annual competition returns in search of its next champion through a series of auditions, elimination rounds and a grand finals showdown.
The competition is open to Filipino bands with members aged 21 to 45 years old and welcomes acts from various rock genres, including metal, alternative rock, punk rock, reggae and other rock-inspired styles.
The winning band will receive the coveted 2026 Pambansang Muziklaban title along with a P1 million cash prize, joining the roster of artists who won its previous editions.
Since its launch in 1999, Red Horse Beer Pambansang Muziklaban has served as a platform for emerging Filipino rock bands.
Among its past champions are Ibarra (formerly Hardboiledeggz), which won in 2006, Even (2008), Hatankaru (2009), Light of Luna (2010), and OPM band Mayonnaise, the competition's 2004 grand champion.
Last year's title went to Tamad si Juan of Davao, which emerged victorious over fellow finalists VDS, Baguio Gold Music, Hilo, and Themata.
The championship event also featured performances from some of the country's biggest rock acts, including Greyhoundz, Wilabaliw, Urbandub, Mayonnaise, Kjwan, Razorback, Typecast, Chocolate Factory, and Setsuna.
