'Avengers: Endgame' returns to Philippine cinemas ahead of 'Doomsday'

MANILA, Philippines — Marvel Studios will be screening "Avengers: Endgame" anew in global theaters, including the Philippines, in preparation for its December blockbuster "Avengers: Doomsday."
Dubbed "Avengers Endgame: Encore," the film will contain new footage, a custom introduction, and a new post-credits scene.
Those watching in IMAX and Infinity Vision cinemas in the Philippines beginning its limited run on September 23 will also get an exclusive look and sneak peek at "Doomsday," which drops on December 16.
Released in 2019, "Endgame" served as the grand finale to the Infinity Saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as the Avengers resorted to time travel in order to defeat Thanos and reverse the snap that dusted half of all life away.
"Endgame" demolished global box office records upon its release, claiming the biggest opening weekend of all time with $1.2 billion (P74.6 billion).
It went on to collect nearly $2.8 billion (P174 billion) worldwide and for a time was the highest-grossing film ever until it was overtaken by previous holder "Avatar" when it got re-released too.
Joe Russo, one half of the directing duo for "Endgame," previously said it was "critically important to re-release" the movie as it links to "Doomsday."
"The fact that we can enhance the story of 'Doomsday' by bridging it to 'Endgame' and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story: It's a really unique opportunity," the filmmaker said in April.
The director and his brother Anthony reiterated the remarks because of the "natural progression" between the films making "Endgame: Encore" a "required viewing."
"Doomsday" gathers a majority of the remaining MCU cast as well as actors from the original "X-Men" movies though there is one notable change: Robert Downey Jr., who previously played Tony Stark or Iron Man, is now the main villain Dr. Doom.
