MANILA, Philippines — Pasay City will temporarily close roads near the Senate starting Monday, July 6, as the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte begins.

The Pasay City Traffic and Parking Management Office said both northbound and southbound lanes of Diokno Boulevard, from Seaside Boulevard to Atang Dela Rama Street, will be closed on scheduled trial days.

The road closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and may continue for seven to eight months, depending on the trial calendar.

Motorists were advised to use Macapagal Boulevard as an alternate route.

Trial days are initially scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from July 6 to 28. After President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s State of the Nation Address, the schedule will shift to Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Police deployment

Around 6,000 police personnel will also be deployed around the Senate for the impeachment trial, according to the Philippine National Police.

PNP spokesperson and acting information chief Col. Allen Rae Co said police have not received any request to deploy personnel inside the Senate.

Co said the PNP has prepared a comprehensive security plan, while intelligence monitoring for possible threats is ongoing.

"This afternoon, the PNP will be conducting a final coordinating conference among all units for the final preparation of our security plan," Co said in mixed Filipino and English during a press briefing.

Duterte's impeachment trial is set to begin Monday. The Senate impeachment court has directed the vice president to appear before it, either in person or through counsel.

Duterte is facing four Articles of Impeachment accusing her of grave threat, misuse of confidential funds, graft and corruption, and unexplained wealth.

Conviction on any article would be enough to remove Duterte from office and disqualify her from holding public office again, but only if it receives the required two-thirds vote of all members of the Senate impeachment court.

Duterte has denied wrongdoing.
