MANILA, Philippines — P-pop girl group BINI was named yesterday by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as one of the country’s new tourism ambassadors.

DOT Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said the long-term initiative is directed at engaging globally recognized Filipino talent in promoting Philippine tourism.

Angara-Mathay cited BINI’s diverse cultural background, with each member having the potential to tap domestic tourism promotions across the country.

“Each girl actually represents a province or a town. They’re very knowledgeable about what is a charming feature of their town. I thought that the input was very refreshing,” Angara-Mathay said.

The DOT will provide platforms to BINI to feature diverse Philippine tourism offerings, she added.

“We’re honored to be the Philippines’ tourism ambassadors and can’t wait to celebrate our country’s tropical beauty, culture and people with all of you,” BINI said.

Aside from BINI, the DOT is  eyeing partnerships with other global Filipino talents, including SB19 and Sophia Laforteza of Katseye for pop music and Alex Eala, EJ Obiena and Carlos Yulo for sports.

“We’re saying that we’re all behind them as global talents that the country can be proud of,” Angara-Mathay said.
