P1.44 million illegal cigarettes seized in Bukidnon

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Suspected illegal cigarettes valued at P1.44 million were seized in separate police operations in Kalilangan, Bukidnon on Monday.

The first batch of illegal cigarettes was found in a Mitsubishi Strada that figured in an accident in Barangay Malinao.

Responding police officers found the vehicle carrying boxes of cigarettes without graphic health warnings. The driver had escaped.

Several hours later, another contraband was seized at a checkpoint in Barangay Pamotolon.

Police arrested the driver of the Nissan Urvan after he failed to show documents for the transport of the cigarettes.
