Through NBI-7: Coliflores to file homicide, admin raps vs hospital staff

CEBU, Philippines - The legal counsel of Cesar Coliflores, who accused Mandaue City Hospital staff of medical malpractice following death of his wife, said his client is collating affidavits from witnesses to be submitted to the National Bureau of Investigation-7.

Lawyer Innocencio dela Cerna said investigation into the death of Jocelyn Coliflores is still ongoing.

It will be the NBI-7 that will file appropriate cases against the hospital staff, including two doctors, three nurses and a security guard who has gone absent without official leave recently.

Last February 18, the hospital staff the camp of Coliflores met with City Legal Officer Giovanni Tianero, but the conference between the two sides kept the husband “unsatisfied.”

Dela Cerna said Cesar is determined to press charges against the medical personnel attending to his wife while hospitalized at the hospital.

Homicide and administrative cases will be filed against them, dela Cerna said.

“There are additional hospital attendants who will also be charged,” Dela Cerna added.

Once NBI winds up its investigation this week, they will then proceed with the filing of charges, he said.

Jocelyn was said to be having an “on and off” fever so she was admitted to the hospital on the evening of January 2.

In a video uploaded by Cesar on Facebook, Jocelyn could be seen going wild minutes after a medical attendant injected two powder vials or 750 milligrams of Cefuroxime into her dextrose to supposedly treat her urinary tract infection.

About 30 minutes from injection, however, Jocelyn reportedly felt uneasy and went wild. It was at this point that she asked one of her children to take a video of her.

Because she seemed untamed, hospital attendants reportedly tied Jocelyn up in her bed with the use of a white cloth and then injected her with diphenhydramine hydrochloric acid which is said to relax the senses.

A few moments after, she then lost consciousness and was declared dead 45 minutes after the first injection.

Cesar stressed that fever was the only condition of his wife at the time she was admitted. In fact, he said, Jocelyn was the one who filled out the hospital admission form.

"Okay pa kaayo siya, lagsik pa kaayo og lawas. Nagkinataw-anay pa mi, nagtawagay man mi ana nga time. Ako siyang gipangutana kung unsa ra gyud iyahang gipamati… hilanat ra gyud nga on and off," Cesar said.

The husband questioned why the medical personnel administered medicine on his wife when the latter had not gone through any laboratory examinations. — Christell Fatima M. Tudtud (FREEMAN)
