MANILA, Philippines — South Korean police will no longer pursue an underage dating charge against embroiled actor Kim Soo-hyun following allegations he entered a relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor.

The Seoul Seongdong Police Station cited a lack of evidence from the claims brought by Sae-ron's family last year and will not refer Soo-hyun to prosecutors for violating Korea's Child Welfare Act.

Authorities similarly cleared the actor from such allegations last May as materials brought to their attention were fabricated by artificial intelligence.

Kim Se-eui, the individual behind YouTube channel HoverLab, was arrested last month for fabricating screenshots and an audio file he submitted as evidence for the alleged inappropriate relationship.

Sae-ron passed away last February 2025 when she was 24 years old and her death was ruled as suicide. She was best known for starring in "Bloodhounds," "The Man From Nowhere," and "Secret Healer."

Soo-hyun meanwhile is best known for "It's Okay to Not Be Okay," "The Producers," "One Ordinary Day," and "Queen of Tears" which was his last credited project before the initial allegations blew up.

He had been set to appear in "Knock-Off" last year opposite Jo Bo-ah but its release was pulled because of the controversy.
