MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corp. (PDIC) plans to make its services available through the government’s eGovPH mobile application, potentially expanding its digital reach to nearly 60 million registered users.

The initiative forms part of the deposit insurer’s first partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), which will help assess and modernize the PDIC’s existing applications and information technology systems.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed on July 1, the DICT will provide technical expertise and recommend improvements to the PDIC’s systems as the two agencies work toward integrating their respective digital platforms.

The agreement seeks to improve the interoperability and synchronization of government systems, while ensuring that the PDIC’s online channels comply with national information and communications technology standards and frameworks.

Integrating PDIC services into the eGovPH app is expected to make transactions more accessible and convenient for depositors and other stakeholders.

The partnership will also cover stronger cybersecurity measures and the development of additional applications that could support PDIC’s operations.

“Through these efforts, we are not simply adopting technology but strengthening how we deliver our mandate,” PDIC president and CEO Roberto Tan said.

The PDIC is mandated to insure bank deposits and help maintain stability and public confidence in the financial system. It also handles the payment of insured deposits when banks are ordered closed and manages the resolution and liquidation of closed banks.

The collaboration with the DICT comes as government agencies increasingly shift transactions and public services to centralized digital platforms.

DICT Undersecretary for e-Government David Almirol Jr. said the department would support the PDIC’s modernization efforts and help align its systems with the broader digitalization program of the government.
