Water-saving measures readied as Angat dips anew

MANILA, Philippines — Measures to avert a possible water shortage are being readied after the elevation in Angat Dam in Bulacan decreased again yesterday.
Citing data, authorities said the water level in Angat as of 2 p.m. yesterday was 155.91 meters or 4.09 meters below the critical level.
“Recent rains helped improve Angat Dam’s water level somewhat, while inflows from the Ipo and La Mesa watersheds are also helping augment raw water availability,” water concessionaire Maynilad said at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay news forum.
“However, Angat remains below critical level and is still Maynilad’s main source for raw water. For this reason, Maynilad is preparing contingency measures should raw water or production conditions worsen,” the company said.
Maynilad has not announced Angat-related rotational service interruptions as current operations are being managed through available sources, network optimization, pressure management, expanded storage and coordination with government agencies.
“If service adjustments become necessary, Maynilad will issue official area-specific advisories so affected customers and local government units can prepare,” it said.
Maynilad said it strengthened its supply and risk mitigation measures through additional sources, expanded storage, reduced water losses and improved network management.
