Thai Internet sensation Aon Somrutai eyes more opportunities in Phl
MANILA, Philippines — Thailand Internet sensation Aon Somrutai is keen to create more content and explore more opportunities in the Philippines after recently signing with GLXY Talent Management and Universal Records Philippines.
“Mabuhay! Mahal kita, Filipino,” she mouthed in Tagalog when she sat down with The STAR for an exclusive interview during her recent visit to Manila.
It was her first time in Manila and she was thrilled to be in the country.
“My dream came true to come to this beautiful country with beautiful people and beautiful minds. Filipino people are so kind. We are similar as countries and I want to explore more food,” she enthused.
During the chat, she noted the similarities between Filipino and Thai people, adding that she felt at home during her stay in Manila. “I love that we are quite similar. It felt like home. The people here and Thais, I think, are almost the same. They are happy and kind and I don’t feel like I came to another country. It’s very similar for me. I feel like the people here, to be honest, are kind, really kind, and they always smile like Thai people.”
Before coming to the Philippines, Aon had already read touching messages from her Filipino fans as they eagerly anticipated her visit. She shared, “In my current post, when I posted that I would come here, I got so many likes and comments, as well as e-mails and DMs, like, ‘Where can I see you?’ I could feel that really warm welcome. I’m so excited. Unfortunately, I came here for a very short time. Maybe in the future, I can have a project. So, the fans can see me. I hope in the future I have the opportunity to see the fans come together and say some words together.”
With such a warm reception from her Filipino followers, Aon also expressed hope of holding a fan meet in the Philippines and creating more fun content for them.
“Because I always see comments from Filipinos. From the first day until now, every day, I see all the comments from Filipinos, and I can feel the love from them. Now, today, I feel the same. I feel the love from them. So, I decided to come here to make some fun content and look for opportunities in the future. So, yeah, I will do my best.”
Famous for her signature line, “Thank You, Kateyki!”, Aon has become one of Thailand’s popular online personalities. She is also an entrepreneur and fashion personality.
She was accompanied by her husband, fondly called “Doctor” on social media, when she arrived in the Philippines.
During her stay, she attended various engagements that introduced her to Filipino audiences.
Aon also had dinner at Lola Ote Restaurant, where she interacted with Filipino media and content creators. Among them was Small Laude, who filmed a mukbang video with Aon and her husband. Aon also made an appearance on “It’s Showtime.”
When asked what else she could share about herself that most people might not know, Aon said:
“Maybe people know I’m happy. Yes, in real life, I’m happy, but I’m human. Sometimes, I’m not happy; sometimes, I’m happy. I’m just an ordinary person. So, I have feelings. Sometimes happy and sometimes not happy, same like you. Sometimes, if you’re not happy, it’s OK. We have tomorrow (to be) happy again.”
