Baus Rufo on the future of ‘Dogshow Divas’ as he joins GTV’s ‘Kalurks’

MANILA, Philippines — Podcaster and stand-up comedian Baus Rufo is on a roll.
Aside from being seen as host-mate and celebri-peep in “Unang Hirit” and “The People Have Spoken,” respectively, Baus, along with DJ Jhai Ho and Ashley Rivera, will lead the Sunday talk show titled “Kalurks,” which gives viewers a recap of the hottest, juicy and trending showbiz news and issues. They are also expected to give their two cents on these topics and viral content.
Described by its publicity team as “a one-stop source of all things trending,” “Kalurks” premieres on Sept. 13 at 8:15 p.m. on GTV.
With these blessings that have come his way, Baus can self-declare and describe himself as a Kapuso talent.
“Nakakatuwa siya (it’s delighful) definitely,” said he when this paper asked him to put into words this latest development in his TV career during a recent media call, “kasi I’ve been trying to pursue a career in entertainment for, like, the last four years. Pero bago yun, ako ay nasa advertising for 11 years (but prior to that, I was in advertising for more than a decade). I was in PR (public relations). Nasa side ako niyan (I was into that field). So, now to be on this side (being in the mainstream TV). Nakakatuwa lang kasi parang dati theory lang siya sa akin, and now parang practicum na (it’s like I was just theorizing and thinking about it, and now, I’m like doing a practicum).”
Even if his hands are full, Baus still has time for the popular podcast “Dogshow Divas” with Macoy Dubs as fellow host and executive producer.
“The future of the podcast is very much intact,” answered he to the question from The STAR. “Naging posible naman itong mga nangyaring opportunities sa akin, kay Macoy, and of course, sa mga naging guest hosts namin because of ‘Dogshow Divas’ (all these opportunities presented and came to me, to Macoy and to the guest hosts were because of the podcast).”
“So, parang for me, isa yun, if not, isa yun ang pinaka-top priority (it’s one of the top priorities if not the one),” added he. “Kasi rin doon, for me, pinaka-nakikita ng tao, ng networks kung ano yung what I have to offer (it’s where people and TV networks can really see what I can offer as a talent). “So, yun naman ang maganda sa podcast. Hindi naman kami live katulad nito (that’s the good thing about ‘Dogshow Divas.’ It’s not broadcast live like ‘Kalurks,’) So, pwede kaming magbangko ng episodes (we could do advance episodes). So, we have that control naman.”
As for the decision of Joy Barcoma, as a guest host, to exit “Dogshow Divas,” Baus had this to say: “So, we fully support, of course, yung naging decision ni Joy (the decision she made). Well-being and mental health (are) very important. I think, of course, in true Joy Barcoma’s fashion, she always teaches us a very important lesson. Number one, mental health is a priority. But also, I think ang message nung naging statement niya is that we should choose kindness. So, I think that’s something that definitely I very admire.” They will not miss each other that much because Baus and Joy have “The People Have Spoken” and “Unang Hirit.”
“This Sunday, we have an event. May brand event kami. Maraming mga upcoming brand campaigns (there are many upcoming brand campaigns that will see us working together),” added he.
In the meet-up proper with the media, Baus shared that he feels the love of being a Kapuso, adding, “Where I belong, diba?”
He was referencing the previous “Where You Belong” slogan of the network with the iconic rainbow in the logo and art campaign.
“I do feel that, and I say that some members of the creative (team) here in ‘Kalurks’ are also the same people I work with in ‘The People Have Spoken,’” said he. “Meron talagang pakiramdan na inaalagaan talaga nila ako (there’s that feeling that I’m being taken care of), they are trying to find projects that really best fit what I have to offer. So, ang saya, saya talaga ng ganun yung feeling na may nag-aalaga sa’yo (it feels so good and very happy to have someone who is looking after you as an artist).”
