‘Queen of Swag’ Riehata ‘honored’ to collaborate with SB19
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-Japanese dancer and choreographer Riehata felt honored to share the stage with SB19 during the “Stella Dance Jam” event for Emoji, a track she choreographed for the “Kings of P-pop.”
The “Stella Dance Jam” was held as part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Philippines-Japan Friendship at The Theatre at Solaire in Parañaque City.
“I feel overwhelmed right now, especially with the collaboration with SB19. We only had one night (to perform), but we killed it. The feeling and energy were so special. We had so much fun on stage,” Riehata, also dubbed the “Queen of Swag,” told The STAR in a post-interview.
She noted that SB19 is popular in Japan and other countries and how rare it is for a Filipino boy band to achieve such international recognition. “I’ve watched their concerts and music videos, but I’ve always wanted to work with them because they are stars and celebrities in the Philippines.
“I was preparing for this since last year and this year. And I finally met them. We did a little TikTok video, and I also choreographed their new song. They got to attend my event. I’m very grateful, and I’m loving their personalities even more as I get to know SB19 better. It’s amazing.”
Riehata added that she felt at home during her performance because of the crowd’s “welcoming” energy. “We didn’t get nervous because they always clapped, smiled and cheered. It was so comfortable and warm, and they gave me energy.”
SB19 and Riehata were joined by the RHT Family, a group produced by Riehata, as well as young emerging dancers selected through auditions held in Japan and the Philippines.
SB19 members Josh, Justin, Ken, Pablo and Stell delivered explosive performances of VISA, Crimzone, Memories and Wakas. They also spoke Japanese phrases, impressing both the audience and Riehata.
If another opportunity arises, Riehata said she would love to collaborate with SB19 again. “We respect each other, and every time we meet, we inspire each other and exchange good energy. We’re both Filipinos. So, we understand what we love and what’s important as human beings, as artists and as dancers. We understand each other without having to talk. SB19 and I have great chemistry. I think and I hope they feel the same way I do.”
The “Stella Dance Jam” was organized by the Japan Foundation. It was also attended by Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya and Madame Endo Akiko as well as Japan Foundation president Kurosawa Shinya; Japan Foundation, Manila director Suzuki Ben; Department of Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay; Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Maria Theresa Dizon-De Vega; and National Commission on Culture and the Arts chairman Eric Zerrudo.
Ambassador Endo, in his remarks, congratulated the Japan Foundation, Manila on its 30th anniversary this year. He particularly lauded the organization for its tireless efforts “to be a vital bridge” between Japan and the Philippines through various cultural and people-to-people exchange initiatives. He also expressed optimism that, through events such as this, “our countries’ youth can share lasting friendships and a unified vision,” according to a statement from the Embassy of Japan.
Kurosawa, for his part, expressed his deepest appreciation to all the partners who have supported the Japan Foundation’s cultural activities and initiatives since it opened its Manila office in 1996. He also reaffirmed that the foundation’s mission to continue bringing Japan and the Philippines closer together remains unchanged.
SB19 also expressed their enthusiasm for celebrating the friendship between the two nations.
“I hope the friendship between Japan and the Philippines continues to inspire collaboration, innovation and cultural exchange,” said Ken.
“And what better way to celebrate this than through music that brings people together across borders,” added Justin.
Pablo urged greater support for cultural exchange programs such as the “Stella Dance Jam,” while Stell noted that such programs “bring people together through meaningful connections and unforgettable shared experiences.”
SB19 recently performed in Japan as part of the “Summer Sonic 2026.”
