For Baus Rufo, it’s never too late to chase a childhood dream

MANILA, Philippines — The fun, candid, witty podcaster Baus Rufo has fulfilled a childhood, long-held dream of doing TV. GMA has tapped him as one of the celebri-peeps of the weekend “high-energy” game show titled “The People Have Spoken.”
Baus, eventologist Tim Yap, beauty queen-host Joy Barcoma and event host-content creator Janeena Chan help celebrity contestants guess the popular opinions by sharing their thoughts on various survey questions.
His hosting in the popular podcast, “DogShow Divas,” with fellow content creator Macoy Dubs, comes in handy. It’s a delight to see him do what he knows and enjoys best on mainstream media.

“Yes is the answer to that because I feel like matagal ko na siyang pangarap (I have dreamed of it for a long time),” said Baus when asked if he had ever thought of doing TV or ending up working on the small screen one day in a brief chat facilitated by the Kapuso network’s publicity team.
“Tinabi ko lang siya (I just put it aside) for 10 years, tapos ngayon parang pwede pala siya ulit (then I could, like, chase it again),” added he. “Parang ni-re-revisit ko ngayon ‘yung childhood dreams ko (it feels like I’m revisiting my childhood dreams). So, I think I’ve always wanted to go for it. It just took the back seat for a decade, and now, I get to play again and have fun.”
He does, as episodes of “The People Have Spoken,” with Heart Evangelista and Sean Lucas as hosts, have shown. Baus also appears as a host-mate in the weekday morning show, “Unang Hirit.”
Now that the stand-up comedian is living his childhood dreams of being on TV and working for shows, he shared some of his realizations: “It’s never too late… it is your God-given right to live a life that you are happy with (and) that you are proud of. It is ultimately up to you if that is your last shot already. So, up until sinasabi mo sa sarili mo na kaya pa, kaya mo pa (you’re telling yourself you can still do it, then you can pursue it).”
Viewers see him work with Joy, who has guested on “DogShow Divas,’ in engaging segments of “The People Have Spoken” and “Unang Hirit.” He said that he loves their working dynamics.
“I love it so much. I am in my mid-30s. Joy is significantly younger than me. You know, as somebody who is older, it is nice to know that I am yet to meet some of the most exciting collaborators that I have,” said he. “I say that because maybe, growing up, we were told that in your 30s you need to start settling down parts of your life. But I would like to believe that my best collaborations, my most exciting projects and the best friends I am going to make are yet to come. It’s nice to know that there are still amazing people out there who are excited to meet you and embrace you.”
Since “The People Have Spoken” touches on public opinion regarding various daily-life topics, Baus was also asked about the importance of voicing out and sharing his thoughts on the show.
“Mahalaga siya (it matters) because I think as a comedian, ang nangyayari sa perspective ko, I always try to find the joy or the comedic angle in a particular topic that, you know, medyo seryoso (is a bit serious),” said he. “So, nakakatuwa na ‘yun ‘yung role ko (that role is nice), na gagaan ‘yung pakiramdam ng mga tao sa issues (which somehow lightens people’s feelings towards issues) o mga tanong na baka minsan medyo naloloka na tayo kakaisip sa kanila (and questions that need careful thinking).”
The audience can relate, in one way or another, to the opinions of celebri-peeps in “The People Have Spoken.”
His reaction to viewers’ feedback, on the other hand, was this: “Nakakatuwa kasi ‘pag sumasagot kami sa ‘The People Have Spoken,’ we just try to come from experience, and we try to be as specific as possible. Nakakatuwa na there is a universality in specificity.”
As for his current hot take, he said, “Ang hot take ko ngayon ay i-normalize natin ang pagiging pagod at masaya at the same time (my hot take now is to normalize the feelings of being tired and happy). Kasi pwede po ‘yun, lalo na (that is possible, especially in this economy and in this traffic, pwede kang maging masaya at pagod (you can feel both) at the same time.”
Please watch “The People Have Spoken” every Saturday night at 6:15. It is also aired on GMA Pinoy TV.
