On impeachment vote day, Palace says VP Sara Duterte soon bound for Kuwait

NEW DELHI, India — After the Office of the Vice President failed to verify the whereabouts of Vice President Sara Duterte, Malacañang said it has information that she is headed to Kuwait, but noted that she has yet to file a provisional travel authority.
The OVP skirted questions about Duterte’s current location, raising more concerns as the Senate is set to vote on her impeachment trial within the day.
In an interview on Wednesday, August 6, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said they have received information about the vice president’s intended destination.
“Mayroon po tayong nabalitaan at ito ay natanong sa atin na mayroon daw balak ang bise presidente na pumunta sa Kuwait ng August 8 pero as we speak, wala pang nahain na request for travel authority and bise presidente,” Castro said at the sidelines of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s state visit to India.
(We received reports and we’ve been asked about it that the Vice President plans to go to Kuwait on August 8. However, as of now, she has not filed a travel authority.)
The Supreme Court had declared the impeachment trial against Duterte as unconstitutional. However, as the sole impeachment court, the Senate may vote on whether or not to continue the trial.
Castro said the Palace respects the high court’s decision, reiterating that Marcos will not interfere.
“Kung anong po ang mangyayari sa Senado sa usaping ito ay nasa kamay po nila 'yan at muli hindi po pangihimasukang ng pangulo kung ano man ang magiging trabaho po ng Senado,” Castro said.
(Whatever happens in the Senate on this topic is in their hands and the president will not meddle in the Senate’s job.)
