LIVE: Senate to vote on VP Sara Duterte impeachment after SC ruling
MANILA, Philippines — The Senate is set to deliberate on Wednesday, August 6, on how to proceed with the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
This comes after the Supreme Court ruled that the Articles of Impeachment transmitted by the House of Representatives were unconstitutional and void from the beginning, citing a violation of the “one impeachment complaint per year” rule.
During a recent closed-door caucus, senators agreed to revisit the 97-page SC decision before making a final call. Some have suggested acting immediately on the impeachment case, while others have requested more time to review the SC decision.
A vote on whether or not to proceed with the trial is expected today when the session opens.
