Taylor Swift unveils '1989 (Taylor's Version)' tracklist, vault song titles
MANILA, Philippines — Award-winning singer-songwriter Taylor Swift unveiled the complete tracklist for her re-recording of "1989," including five unreleased songs "from the vault."
Taylor initially enlisted the help of Google to have her fans solve a series of puzzles to figure out the titles of the vault tracks, as she has done for the previous releases of re-recorded albums.
Swifties were decoding the puzzles for a day (causing the search engine to temporarily crash) when Taylor eventually announced, through sharing the back covers of "1989 (Taylor's Version)," the vault songs are "Slut!," "Say Don't Go," "Now That We Don't Talk," "Suburban Legends," and "Is It Over Now?"
"Slut!" was initially not on the puzzles being solved by fans, as was a Target-exclusive track that has not been announced yet.
This is the first time Taylor is releasing a re-recorded album without collaborating with other artists for vault tracks, having previously worked with Fall Out Boy, Hayley Williams, Keith Urban, Phoebe Bridgers, Chris Stapleton, and Maren Morris.
Fans speculated that Taylor was going to collaborate with Nicki Minaj and close friend Selena Gomez, even ex-boyfriend Harry Styles who many have speculated was the inspiration for the song "Style."
The 16 songs from the original 2014 deluxe album are on the re-recorded version, bringing "1989 (Taylor's Version)" to a total of 21 tracks.
These include Taylor's hit singles "Shake It Off," "Blank Space," "Bad Blood," "Wildest Dreams," "Out of the Woods," "New Romantics," "Style," and fan-favorites "Welcome to New York," "This Love," and "Clean."
The back covers are four different photos of Taylor — shouting with cupped hands, balancing on a log, eating ice-cream, and dancing — each with digits in "1989."
"1989 (Taylor's Version)" drops on October 27, exactly nine years after the original album came out.
