Kito Romualdez tries his luck in the local music industry

MANILA, Philippines- A breath of new music genre, that's what Kito Romualdez would like to bring to the local music scene.

This 20-year-old lad flew all the way here from Canada, leaving everything behind to give his music career a chance.

“Kasi I feel that it's not that good to be so stable,” he replied in a recent interview when asked why he left his stable job in a bank back in Canada.  “Like if you're too stable, there's something bound to go wrong.

“It's the what if factor also, kasi I imagine na I can't do this when I'm older, it's a bit too late. And I had a good relationship with my previous job, that if I wanted to go back I could. I wold just like to do something that I'm really passionate about and  [could] turn out great.”

Being a singer-songwriter, Kito expresses his emotions through his music. He said his passion for music began when he wrote the song “Jack and Jill”, which is about the first girl who broke his heart.

“The first song that I wrote four years ago is about my very first ex-girlfriend,” he relates. “People used to call us Jack and Jill, back in high school because we're the cheesy couple. So when we broke up, I pushed myself further in music and the first thing I did was to write a song.”

Since then when the emotion is too much for him to handle or if he can't express himself well, he would grab a pen, paper, and his guitar to write down a song.

But with the number of budding singer-songwriters from different talent search shows or  discovered by a talent agency, the competition is tight. Still,  Kito remains confident.

“I think what sets me apart here is that I'm trying to bring a different sound,” he said. “Kasi I found that a lot of music here are great, don't get me wrong, but coming from Canada and coming here it's very different.

“It's more of ballad, and actually bilib ako sa mga balladeers because I can't sing ballad. So I just want to bring something that could be sung by everybody in a sense.”
