MANILA, Philippines — Korean star Ji Chang-wook will appear in an upcoming fantasy romantic-comedy series opposite Jun Ji-hyun, his co-star in the film "Colony" coming out next year.

Television network JTBC confirmed Chang-wook and Ji-hyun were cast in "Human x Gumiho," which will follow a man that irresistibly attracts mythical creatures and a seductive being that bewitches humans crossing paths at the intersection of fate.

Ji-hyun will play Gu Ja-hong, a famous actress who is also a gumiho (a mythical 2,000-year-old nine-tailed fox) that manages to manipulate human beings with ease.

That is until she meets Chang-wook's Choi Seok, a shaman and museum director, who is not affected by her abilities though he himself possesses his own skills.

"Strong Girl Nam-Soon" director Kim Jung-sik helms the project on a script by Im Meari, whose series credits include "Beauty Inside" and "Doom at Your Service," the latter starring Park Bo-young and Seo In-guk.

The two actors will appear in next year's "Colony" by "Train to Busan" director Yeon Sang-ho. This will be Ji-hyun's first movie in over a decade, her last big screen outing was 2015's "Assassination" with Lee Jung-jae.

Joining the "Colony" cast are "D.P." star Koo Kyo-hwan, "Hospital Playlist" star Shin Hyun-been, and her "Reborn Rich" co-star Kim Shin-rok.

Kyo-hwan previously appeared in "Peninsula," Sang-ho's "Train to Busan" sequel, while in Hyun-been was in the director's two films last year, "Revelations" and "The Ugly."

Chang-wook is also slated to star opposite Japanese actress Mio Imada in a cross-cultural romantic comedy show for Disney+, marking the first collaboration between Korea's CJ ENM and Japan's Nippon TV.

The show with a working title of "Merry Berry Love" was confirmed during Disney's Asia-Pacific showcase in Hong Kong and is currently shooting in both Korea and Japan for a 2026 release.

It will follow Chang-wook's down-on-luck spatial designer Lee Yu-bin and Imada's strawberry farmer Karin Shirahamaas. They find love on a remote Japanese island.

"Semantic Error" director Kim Soo-jung helms the series on a script by "The Divorce Insurance" writer Lee Jae-yoon.

"Chang-wook is older, so he is like a big brother to me, and I trust him a lot," said Imada at the showcase.

Imada is a model who received attention after appearing in Japanese adaptations of "Boys Over Flowers" and "Suits."

That led to a voice role on "My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising" as Slice, playing Hinata Tachibana in several "Tokyo Revengers" movies, and portraying Masako Ohma in "Doctor-X" projects.

Chang-wook is best known for his roles in the shows "Empress Ki," "Suspicious Partner," " The Queen Woo," "Healer," "The Worst of Evil," "Gangnam B-Side," "Lovestruck in the City," "The K2," and most recently, "The Manipulated."

He is set to appear in a special food show introducing Filipino dishes to Koreans called "Kumusta" with Jodi Sta. Maria, Janella Salvador, Francine Diaz, and Arci Muñoz.
