BINI, SB19 begin Grammys 2027 nomination campaigns

MANILA, Philippines — P-pop groups BINI and SB19 have launched their campaigns for nominations at the 69th Grammy Awards next year.
The 2027 Grammys opened its first round of voting where active Recording Academy members can review official submissions and cast their ballots for nominees.
Eligible for the upcoming awards are artists and their music released between August 31, 2025 and August 28, 2026.
With first-round voting running until October 22, both BINI and SB19 have posted "For Your Consideration" promotions indicating the categories each are vying for.
Both groups are submitting tracks in the new yet controversial Asian Pop Music Performance category: BINI is submitting "Unang Kilig," while SB19 is pushing "Visa."
The Asian Pop Music Performance category is one of five new categories being introduced at the 2027 awards although its introduction drew flak from industry leaders. Some claim it limits recognition of Asian artists and boxes them out of major categories.
The Recording Academy decided to push through with the newly introduced category after weeks of deliberation.
SB19's only other submission is "Lawless" in the Pop Duo/Group Performance, a category that was recently won by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for their version of "Defying Gravity" from "Wicked."
It is expected to be a tight race given the presence of the following:
- Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter's "Bring Your Love"
- PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson's "Stateside"
- Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter's "The Life of a Showgirl"
- Lady Gaga and Doechii's "Runway"
- Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's "For Good"
- Katseye's "Animal" and "Pinky Up"
BINI is submitting its "Forgotten Island" track "A Parallel World" in the Best Song Written for Visual Media category, won last year by smash hit "Golden" from "KPop Demon Hunters."
This year's expected nominees include either new "Wicked: For Good" songs "No Place Like Home" and "Girl in the Bubble," as well as another Taylor track "I Knew It, I Knew You" from "Toy Story 5."
The Nation's Girl Group is also vying for major category Best New Artist, which Olivia Dean last won.
Past recipients include Filipino-American Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Adele, Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, Maroon 5, Alicia Keys, Megan Thee Stallion, Chappell Roan, Chance the Rapper, Bon Iver, and Christina Aguilera in the 21st century alone.
Eligible for Best New Artist in the upcoming ceremony are Ella Langley, Sienna Spiro, Stella Lefty, Bella Kay, Don Toliver, Miles Caton, Suki Waterhouse, and Malcolm Todd.
Nominees for the 69th Grammy Awards will be announced on November 16 ahead of the ceremony on February 7, 2027.
