Carmelle Collado pressured to rep PH at 1st Eurovision Asia
MANILA, Philippines — Singer Carmelle Collado admitted feeling the pressure of representing the Philippines at Eurovision Asia but said she is choosing to focus on the opportunities and experience that come with the international competition.
Carmelle is set to perform in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 14, where she will represent the country before a global audience.
In a recent episode of Star Magic Spotlight, the singer acknowledged the responsibility that comes with representing the Philippines on an international stage.
“Of course po, kasi sabi ko nga when you represent the country, it’s a huge responsibility. Eurovision is pang-worldwide and global audience po talaga ’yung nanonood so grabe po talaga ’yung pressure,” she said.
“But at the same time, ako po nagpo-focus din po ako sa kung ano po ’yung mga opportunities na puwedeng mangyari sa buhay ko, win or lose po,” she added.
Despite the pressure, Collado said she is already grateful for being chosen to represent the country.
“Ngayon po happy na po ako kasi ako po ’yung napili na mag-represent po ng Philippines,” she said.
“Tina-try ko po ’yung best ko na hindi mag-overthink, talagang mas nagma-matter po sa akin na i-enjoy ’yung journey,” she added.
The former "Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0" housemate also discussed how her first solo concert helped prepare her for the demands of performing on a bigger stage. However, she noted that Eurovision Asia presents a different challenge, with performers having only a few minutes to make an impression.
“’Yung first solo concert ko po kasi parang ’yung nag-bigay sa akin ng daan para matutunan ko kung paano ko i-carry ’yung sarili ko, lalung-lalo na po ’yung buong performance,” she said.
“Sa Eurovision naman po, it’s a different one po kasi marami po kaming kakanta and we only have minutes to make an impression,” she added.
As preparations continue, Carmelle said she is also actively sharing her ideas with her team to ensure that she feels comfortable with the performance.
“Kailangan ko po talaga mag-sabi kung ano po ’yung gusto ko, kung saan po ako kumportable kasi ako po ’yung magpe-perform,” she said.
She added that the team eventually reached an agreement on the direction of the performance.
“But then, ako talaga ate, nag-unite kami na ito na lang ’yung magandang gawin sa performance. So happy po ako kasi nagka-sundo kaming lahat,” she said.
Carmelle is scheduled to take the Eurovision Asia stage representing the Philippines on November 14 in Bangkok.
