How Esnyr and Bianca De Vera ‘saved’ each other
MANILA, Philippines — From saving her from a random “afam” at a club to becoming each other’s shoulder to cry on, Bianca De Vera and Esnyr recalled how they’ve managed to be always there for each other, deepening their friendship over the years.
The two had been friends even before entering the “Pinoy Big Brother” house, and they’ve remained close as they continue to enjoy their flourishing careers.
They first met more than five years ago at a club, where Esnyr shared that he defended Bianca from a stranger.
“I couldn’t forget our first meeting. That’s when our bond strengthened. ‘Di ba polo-polo nga ako dati. There was this afam (foreigner) who hit on her. Tapos natatakot kaming dalawa. Kasi parang, ‘Hey, baby girl wanna go with me? Ganyan ganyan siya,” recalled Esnyr during the Star Magic Spotlight presscon.
“So siyempre ako, ‘What should I do?’ We were not close yet during that time. I saw that Bianca was really uncomfy. So, I stepped up. Nag-lalaki-han ako. Sabi ko, ‘Babe, let’s go.’”
Bianca added, “Hinamon pa niya yung lalaki. Sabi niya, ‘Oh, she’s with me, bro.’ That’s when our bond really strengthened. It was unforgettable for me. He defended me and that’s when Bogart was born (one of Esnyr’s recurring characters).”
“It was not in my bingo card (that year) to save Bianca from a random afam. We became close and years later, we’re here,” Esnyr stated.
During the presscon, Bianca also playfully commented on Esnyr’s outfit, saying, “Nakakapag-corset corset ka na ngayon.”
“So, this is it, bro. I’m not a bro. I’m a sis,” Esnyr then jokingly reacted.
Their friendship continued to grow after that encounter, and they even attended a BINI concert together.
“We sat next to each other at a BINI concert,” Esnyr recalled.
But Bianca was quick to correct the actor-comedian: “’Gurl, sabay tayong pumunta.”
“Sorry, a lot has happened. Sabay pala kaming pumunta,” Esnyr laughed. “But my POV that time was, ‘Ate, you make the most out of it na kasi papasok na ako sa ‘PBB.’ Sa utak ko.’ Tapos siya din pala. Hahaha!”
The two eventually entered “PBB: Celebrity Collab Edition,” where Esnyr placed third. They later went on to collaborate on the drama-mystery series “The Secrets of Hotel 88.”
Despite their increasingly busy schedules, Bianca noted that their dynamic as friends has remained unchanged.
“We have our respective work and we became busier. But as time progresses, we have proven how strong the foundation of our friendship is. Because I would say na hindi siya…”
Esnyr jokingly interjected, “Hindi siya nag-o-oxidize yung ‘foundation’ ng friendship namin.”
“It’s not high-maintenance at all,” Bianca was likewise happy to note. “When we see each other, we’re still the same, naghahampasan pa rin, naglolokohan pa rin.”
Esnyr is one of Bianca’s closest friends, with their friendship extending beyond the world of showbiz.
“Like when we see each other, we can be funny together, but at the same time, pwede rin kami mag-heart-to-heart,” said Bianca.
There was also a time when Esnyr was feeling really down and emotional, so Bianca called him to offer some advice. During the call, she told him, “‘Ate, don’t let him stop you. You have a very bright future, blah blah blah.’”
The experience made Esnyr appreciate Bianca even more. “I really appreciated her at the time when I was at my lowest kasi nung nalaman niya, she called me. And I didn’t know that I needed that call. She’s one of the people who helped me recover.
“Grabe talaga yung advice niya sa akin that time. I was really crying and had no one to call because everyone was busy. But Bianca took the time to call me and damayan ako.”
“Nung huling part nun sabi niya, ‘I’m here for you. May P500 ka ba diyan?’ So OK lang din,” Esnyr quipped.
Bianca recently mounted her first sold-out fan concert with Dustin Yu, while Esnyr is currently co-hosting the vodcast “Hello, Outside World” with Bianca Gonzalez.
