Let Gravity drops reflective, heartfelt song for dads

MANILA, Philippines — Fathers are known as “Haligi ng Tahanan (Pillar of the Home),” who provide assistance and stability to households along with the guidance of mothers. These men, including those father figures, are usually feted on the third Sunday of June. Everybody acknowledges their selfless love and sacrifices to give their families a good life.
Capturing some key moments and thoughts about fatherhood, on the other hand, is the song titled Kay Bilis Ng Panahon of the alternative pop-rock band Let Gravity. Its publicity team described it as a “reflective and heartfelt track that contemplates the swift passage of time, the joy of watching loved ones grow and the enduring power of family bonds.” The tune is released under the label Flamingo Music.
This paper had a brief virtual chat with Let Gravity members Donne Santos (bass/vocals), Jad Delavega (guitars) and Miguel “Ige” Torres (drums), who previously released the ditty Kwento ng Buhay, also displaying the band’s ability and enthusiasm to share “relatable narrative and inspiring message,” as a piece of available information put it, with its “commitment to writing songs that uplift, encourage and remind listeners that their stories matter.”
Donne said that it’s their first time recording a song for dads, who like, them, have grown-up kids.
“This song was inspired by our own personal experiences, you know, for having kids,” added he. “They used to be toddlers, and all of a sudden, they are now grown-ups.”
When kids have reached adulthood, fathers miss or long for some moments with the youngsters, who learn to become independent.
“As for me, when they’re grown-ups, especially when they are in high school, medyo iba na yung mundo nila (their world kinda has changed a bit). Hinihintay ko lang kapag may need sila (I’m here for them, waiting to be approached if they need anything),” said Ige. “But if I notice a slight change in their behavior or attitude, I guide them.”
With Jad, he recalled the time when children would take a nap during siesta (early afternoon break) and hit the sack early because they had classes the following day.
“Like what Ige has said, ang anak namin mga binata na (we have grown-up kids). Ayun, may mga (kanya-kanyang) lakad (You know they have their own schedules and activities),” shared he, adding that before he could just tell them to stay at home and “sleep in the afternoon and wake up at 4 p.m. or go to bed at 8. So, they could get up early.”
Donne could also relate to that, remembering this: “Every time na aalis ka (you leave for work or do an errand), gustong sumama (kids would love to be with or accompany you).”
This only goes to show that children will eventually grow up, but the love and care of parents remain. Such a personal and universal experience is something that Let Gravity wishes to tell in their songs and music.
“Yes, that’s really the goal — to connect with people more, (sharing our) experiences (with them),” said Donne, adding that their band wants to put across positivity to the public and music enthusiasts.
Aside from music production that keeps them busy, the three pursue various interests such as audio engineering, volunteering at a church, collaborating with other musicians and collecting vintage toys.
Donne and Ige knew each other earlier than high school, as one could glean by following their train of thought. Donne and Jad belong to that same music circle. But it’s their love for creating music that bonds and bands them together.
So, what’s in the pipeline after the release of Kay Bilis Ng Panahon?
Well, Let Gravity will release a new song in three to four months.
According to its publicity team, the three-piece band “aims to expand its reach through new releases, live performances and a growing catalog of music that speaks to both longtime supporters and younger audiences discovering the band for the first time.” Part of it, too, is the plan to have a full-length album.
Aside from radio guestings, Let Gravity will have a gig on July 15 at the Marikina Food Park and grace the Flamingo Music anniversary on Aug. 8.
For now, please give the tune Kay Bilis Ng Panahon a listen on all streaming platforms worldwide.
