Joshua Garcia opens up on fan culture and setting boundaries

MANILA, Philippines — Actor Joshua Garcia opened up on setting boundaries as a popular public figure.

The "Love is Never Gone" lead star tried to view the sensitive topic from his perspective as a public persona and from the point of view of fans who can be overzealous at finally meeting their idols. For the actor, as long as respect is present, he is fine with the attention but he draws the line when it is disregarded.

Boundaries, mahirap sa work namin e," he said at the recent Star Magic Spotlight press conference.

The actor also reasoned out that public figures should be aware of the risks and challenges they face as these help them last in their chosen field.

He puts his confidence in fans and the public to know how to respect other people's boundaries.

As a popular star, he is used to going to public spaces, such as malls, were he is expected by millions of his followers for official events and launches.

In fact, Joshua said that it is part of his job to entertain fans, including taking selfies or photos with them.

"Ako kasi, for example, may magpapa-picture, okay lang sa akin 'yung ganon e, kaysa walang nagpapa-picture sayo. It's our job," he said.

"Nandito tayo sa entertainment industry. So, dapat makapag-bigay tayo ng saya sa mga taong nakakita sa atin," he added. — Video by Philstar.com / Hannah Santos
