Kylie Padilla less of a daredevil in return to action

Kathleen A. Llemit - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — Kylie Padilla admitted that she has become more cautious as opposed to her younger self when she decided to follow in her father Robin Padilla’s footsteps as an action star.

Kylie has been doing her own stunts in many of her past action shows on GMA-7. She belongs to only a handful of female celebrities who trained early to do physical stunts, influenced by her ‘90s action star father, who is now the talk of the town as an incumbent senator.

Kylie showed how she can make fight scenes believable, such as her choreographed stunts in the recently-concluded fantasy drama “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre”, a popular GMA-7 franchise she has been part of since 2016’s reboot of the original 2005 show.

Her return to GMA-7’s primetime tonight, however, is a different story. She is still doing her stunts, but Kylie has learned to hold back.

“Ikaw hindi ka nag-dalawang isip pero ako kasi may dalawang anak na naghihintay sa bahay!” Kylie butted in while her co-star Miguel Tanfelix answered a question at their show’s recent press conference held in GMA-7.

Miguel is Kylie’s co-star in the buddy cop show “Taskforce Firewall”, premiering tonight on GMA-7 after “Master Cutter.”

Miguel stars in his first hard action drama as a former soldier with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with Kylie as the head of the fictional Firewall unit tasked to fight cybercrimes. His character was earlier introduced in Dingdong’s “Master Cutter”, a show that took place before the timeline of “Firewall.”

Kylie said that while she returns to primetime just days after “Sang’gre” aired its finale, her new show is more calculated on her part.

“As in nabawasan lang ‘yung pagiging daredevil ko, hindi gaya dati nung wala pa akong anak, gusto ko 'yan. Pero nung nagka-anak na ako, binawasan ko na,” Kylie said.

She and Miguel executed a rappeling stunt from the 17th floor of GMA-7’s main building in Quezon City as part of the opening week episode. Miguel even took a day of training with the Army in Tarlac on how to handle weaponry.

The actress did a rappeling stunt before, but it was a first for her to go down a high-rise building. Though more fearful for her two sons with actor Aljur Abrenica, Kylie said it was worth doing it for their show.

“Pero nung na-experience ko na yung lumilipad na feeling, it was worth it. It was worth all the fear and the kaba. Tsaka worth it para mapaganda ‘yung show namin,” Kylie said.
