MANILA, Philippines — Host Bianca Gonzalez-Intal made it clear that she has always been an advocate for good governance following criticism that described her as "performative."

Last Monday, May 11, Bianca posted on X that Filipinos yearn for more comfortable lives by stressing that taxes should be returned in the form of public service.

"Ano bang kailangang mangyari para matupad 'yun, para magkaroon ng sistema't liderato na tunay na para sa tao?" the host said.

Earlier that day, the Senate saw a surprise change in leadership after Alan Peter Cayetano was chosen to replace Tito Sotto.

Among those who voted for Cayetano was Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa, making his first appearance in the upper house in six months while trying to evade authorities from the National Bureau of Investigation.

While many agreed with her tweet, there were some that called the host "performative" and "selective" about the topics she discusses.

A number of replies even called Bianca "complicit" because of her friendship with former fellow "Pinoy Big Brother" hosts Toni Gonzaga and Mariel Rodriguez.

Toni is a vocal supporter of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. while Mariel is married to Robin Padilla, another senator involved in the Cayetano vote and himself a self-proclaimed supporter of the Duterte family.

One X user reposted Bianca's post and said, "Your dedication to performative politics should honestly be studied."

This caught Bianca's attention.

"I've been around way too long in the fight for good governance, since pre social media days, to be categorized as performative," Bianca said. "Hindi po ako ang kalaban."

Lifestyle and culture writer Tito Saul also reposted the original post and pointed out how principled Bianca is as a person.

"To those thinking it's a clapback to Bianca to mention those two people," Saul said, likely referring to Toni and Mariel, "Can you honestly say that you've completely, absolutely cut ties with everyone you know who doesn't have the same political belief?"

Saul also described Bianca as a person who "can influence the worst kind of supporter of the opposite specturm," which would not be possible if one severs ties with such people.

"Plus, you all well know she's on our side, no need to gun her for your dopamine. Converse, if you must, but an attack? Unnecessary," Saul ended.

Bianca responded to Saul with gratitude for his words of grace, "Converse, not attack, very well said and 'yan din ang lagi kong pinapaalala sa sarili ko!"
