BINI gets Senate commendation for Coachella performance

The members of the Pinoy Pop Group BINI were greeted by senators during yesterday’s plenary session, which they attended to accept a resolution commending their historic Coachella performance.
Staff and guests lined up to welcome Maraiah Queen Arceta (Aiah), Ma. Nicolette Vergara (Colet), Mary Loi Yves Ricalde (Maloi), Gweneth Apuli (Gwen), Lindtsey Stacey Aubrey Sevilleja (Stacey), Mikhaela Janna Lim (Mikha), Jhoanna Christine Robles (Jhoanna) and Sheena Mae Catacutan (Sheena).
Sen. Bam Aquino authored Senate Resolution No. 370, which lauded their “historic milestone as the first Filipino act to perform at the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (Coachella),” held last April 10 and 17 in Indio, California.
The resolution lauded their performance of their hit songs Shagidi, Pantropiko, Salamin-Salamin and Karera, wearing Filipino indigenous elements like the salakot.

“BINI’s pioneering performance paves the way for the continued growth of Philippine Pop and opens opportunities for more Filipino artists to showcase their talents and gain greater visibility in the global music industry,” Aquino’s resolution read.
“BINI’s achievement serves as an inspiration to young Filipinos, demonstrating that Filipino talent can thrive and gain recognition on the world stage through passion, discipline and excellence,” it added.
Senators Risa Hontiveros, Joel Villanueva, Erwin and Raffy Tulfo, and Jinggoy Estrada co-sponsored the resolution.
Senate president Vicente Sotto III suspended Senate rules against applauding in plenary so that the senators and the staff and guests could give the BINI members applause.
