The entertainment landscape of today includes digital creators churning out content after another. They have followers of their own in their locales and beyond.

Adam Shamil of Sabah, Malaysia recently visited the country to share the good news that his business, Chunk & Dunk, will have its first global outlet in Eastwood City.

With that, Filipinos get to enjoy its crunchiest croffles, a hybrid of croissant and waffle, and finest shaved ice come April 5.

This paper got to ask Adam about his entertainment endeavors before venturing into the F&B field in a recent presscon, also attended by Lester Edward Lim, international brand partner, Chunk & Dunk Ph and daughter Chevy, brand ambassador, Chunk & Dunk Ph.

“I have always loved singing ever since I was a little boy,” said the Chunk & Dunk CEO and founder. “I started my career as a content creator, but you know, I started nine years or about 10 years ago, in 2016.”

His initial content was about the similarity of East Malaysians like him and Indonesians when they speak Malay.

“That is actually what prompted me to start my very first YouTube video… that actually was the beginning part of my journey as a storyteller,” added he, “I was starting to make videos from the comfort of my university bedroom and then I was starting to make content. And then, because I love singing as well. So, I basically diversified my talents of making, you know, writ(ing) stories, making videos and singing at the same time, and that journey of mine has translated to, you know, being able to save enough… and finally starting my very first business, which is the first outlet of Chunk & Dunk… 10 minutes away from where I live.”

If he didn’t start his journey as a content creator and a singer, Adam reflected, he wouldn’t be able to find his earnings to start his business. “So, I’d say, you know, content creation has changed my life,” shared he.

As for his career in music, Adam loves it, but he had to make a decision to commit to the dessert shop.

“Well, it’s true you can multitask. You can sing, you know, run a business and you can make videos, but it’s also important to be able to have a clear identity of who you want to present yourself as,” said he. “I want to be known as the guy who used his life savings to start, you know, the world’s best croffles.”

Pinoys will soon have a bite and a taste of these delectable croffles with toppings such as Lotus Biscoff, Milk Chocolate, Famous Amos, Bueno Bueno and Chicken Floss. The Chunk & Dunk Philippine outlet will also offer ube and macapuno toppings.

Adam shared that he has tried a variety of desserts, and croffle tops his list. He had his first croffle in the US and then in Korea.

From then on, he has become a fan of this pastry and turned his enthusiasm for it into a business venture.

Adam expressed his gratefulness for the blessings content creation and singing have given him and acknowledged the support of people who have followed him.

For now, he wears the hat of an entrepreneur, busy managing almost a hundred employees in his country and promoting “an amazing product” that people love. Through that, he and his business are able “to, you know, uplift the life of those who are part of this journey with me,” said he.

His story from being a content creator to a singer and a businessman serves as an inspiration to young people. It encourages them to follow their hearts’ desire and chase their dreams. But the bottom line is one has to start somewhere.
