MANILA, Philippines — Taking a quick look at her TV work in the past five years, one can say that Beauty Gonzalez has been fortunate to have essayed various engaging and meaty roles. They have kept her visible and on a roll.

And when The STAR mentioned it to her in a brief chat for her latest GMA Afternoon Prime drama, “House of Lies,” the ever-reliable actress couldn’t help but smile.

“Kaya nga sobrang grateful ako and thankful (that’s why I’m very grateful and thankful), I mean, like, I’m still amazed,” said she. “I’m happy na tuloy, tuloy yung bigay na suporta at tiwala nila sa akin (for the continued support and trust the GMA people have given me). I guess when you give your best, nakikita naman nila yun (they see and appreciate it).”

Her roles in “Stories from the Heart,” “I Can See You,” “The Fake Life,” “Mano Po Legacy: The Flower Sisters,” “Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis,” “Stolen Life,” “Prinsesa ng City Jail” and “House of Lies” have displayed the different faces of a woman and facets of womanhood.

“Lagi ko nga sinasabi, laging akong nagugulat sa personality for every character na nagagawa ko (I always say that I’m surprised by the personality of every character I’ve played),” shared she, “kasi iba-ibang personality lumalabas (sa) kanila, eh (each offers a different personality).”

This is what thrills actresses like Beauty, who looks forward to immersing herself in a totally different world or exploring a new perspective in every project.

“Dito naman, iba naman yung personality ni Marj (here, my character Marjorie has her own persona),” said Beauty of her character, who speaks Bisaya, in “House of Lies,” like her Gloria in “Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis.”

“Iba yung hikbi at iyak ko dito (here, my sobbing and crying are different). Natatawa nga si direk, ‘Parang iba ang lalim ng iyak mo dito, eh’ (the director was amused, telling me, ‘It seems that your depth of crying is different this time, huh?’).”

Beauty was referring to direk Jerry Lopez Sineneng, whom she has worked with in teleseryes like “Prinsesa ng City Jail,” “Stolen Life” and “Kadenang Ginto.”

With that, the director could say what’s new or has changed in her portrayal since he can attest to her acting mettle and range.

Beauty also acknowledged the talent of the creative and writing team. With the latter’s work, she can offer something new and deliver a heartfelt performance.

“Siyempre (of course), you just react kung anong binibigay na script sa’yo (to the script given to you), and of course, yung mga co-actors mo, ‘pag 100 percent binibigay sa’yo, mas maganda yung nuances na ibigay mo (if your fellow stars give their 100 percent, you can offer a nice, nuanced portrayal),” shared she. “You’re just reacting to your co-actors. So, I’m blessed with them.”

Asked if she’s set to do any film this year, Beauty answered that she’s in the process of talking to a director, who wants her to be part of a German full-length film. It will be shot in Austria. The movie requires her to speak in English, Beauty’s third language.

If it pushes through, she hopes filming will start sometime in December. So, she has more time to practice her English. She’s excited about it.

It’s also time for Beauty to further broaden her acting horizons.

But what’s inspiring about her showbiz journey is how she has graduated from best-friend-girl Friday roles to leading and protagonist ones. She has remained committed to her craft in spite of visibility and success.

“I wouldn’t feel good pag-uwi ako sa bahay kung hindi ako 100 percent binibigay (when I got home knowing that I didn’t give my 100 percent),” said she. “Hindi ako makakatulog rin (I wouldn’t be able to sleep).”

Speaking again of the varied projects she has starred in on the small screen, Beauty had this to share: “Sabi ko nga, tinatanong nila ako kung ano pa ba ang gusto mo, sabi ko pwedeng mashed up na lang: revenge, gritty, action with rom-com.”

For now, she will be Marj in the afternoon intense family drama, “House of Lies,” airing weekdays at 3:20 p.m. on GMA. Global Pinoys, meanwhile, can watch it via GMA Pinoy TV.
