Manu Respall reveals dream TV series project
Artist Manu Respall banks on his creative talents to make his dream project titled ‘Ecean of the Crescent Realm’ happen. The fantasy TV series is about an elemental-humanoid young prince, Ecean, who lives in the world of Therra. The story is also replete with themes about romance, politics, nature and tragedy, to name a few.

MANILA, Philippines — Artist Manu Respall, who dabbles in varied artistic endeavors such as acting, dancing, writing and directing, plus the visual arts, has recently revealed his dream project, “Ecean of the Crescent Realm.”

Still in the research and development stage, the latter is a TV series envisioned for global screening or streaming.

In the event called “Ashology of Therra,” Manu shared bits and pieces about the high fantasy, sci-fi epic series based on a story he himself, at 17, conceptualized and created.

The material, where the TV series will be based, is complete. But Manu also looks for more collaborators to make his dream project come true.

The term “ashology” is something Manu coined, which refers to “art saves humanity” or “the study of how art will save humanity.”

So, it’s also what the TV series wishes to put across to viewers, as one could glean.

Manu is using his interrelated and intersecting talents and interests to tell the “Ecean of the Crescent Realm” story and breathe life into its characters, such as Ecean, whose “home” is known as Therra. It is outside of Earth, as described by Manu, and found “a few hundred thousand feet above (it).”

The launch presentation revealed that Ecean is the lead male character, while his twin sister, Naia, is the female lead character. She has a lover in Salunar, a good-looking guy cursed by a woman. Naia and Salunar already have a song titled Beautiful Monster this early as well as “Ecean” has its own signature tune.

A piece of information given to this paper says that Ecean is “an expert explorer and (a) prince of the Kingdom of Ellidaurr.” Therra, on the other hand, houses “tens of thousands of creatures and races, including the Xybereons, Stahl and Nuwarrakarri.”

“What you do on Earth happens in Therra,” said Manu, who appeared in the TV5 series “Totoy Bato” and the movie “Triggered,” in a recent presscon. “So, ‘pag may kalat sa Earth, may kalat sa Therra (if one throws garbage on Earth, there will also be trash in Therra).”

Manu also gives one a glimpse into the world of Therra through artworks like the one in the background.

Pieces of materialism or commercialism, such as billboards and nets, appear in Therra, particularly in its sea. It might be attributed to a certain “intersectionality” or invisible “portal” between Earth and Therra, in which human actions and decisions affect the latter’s environment.

Asked what kind of entity lives in Therra, Manu said, “Walang tao po dun. Lahat sila elemental (there’s no human being there, but only elementals). May nag-iisang tao pero i-reveal natin yan (but there’s one and we will reveal it) in a very beautiful way.”

That character is an 80-year-old woman named Alys, who is bound to share her unique story of reaching Therra through recollections of the past.

They may be interspersed with the voices of elementals.

These entities will take the form of humanoids, said Manu, they have features of human beings. It is to make them relatable, with the incorporation of stories on love, politics and tragedy. Themes about nature, historical cycles and ecological and spiritual redemption will be presented, too, according to the project’s publicity team.

Taking on the roles are new talents and familiar, established names.

The “Ecean of the Crescent Realm” creator wishes to tap Marita Zobel, Angel Aquino, Raymond Bagatsing, Nadine Lustre, Gold Aceron, Maricel Soriano and Mon Confiado. Hopefully, their work schedules will allow them to be part of the five-season TV series. Each features 10 episodes.

Given the genre of “Ecean of the Crescent Realm” and the technical aspect that comes with it, the artist’s dream date of completion is either the early part of 2027 or later. He looks forward to the time when he can share the dream project on a global platform.

Manu agreed it’s a “super” ambitious endeavor, but everyone is free to dream and chase it.

“I call this nga the impossible project,” said he, who has also found collaborators in Glitch for the visuals and Waxified Sound Production for aural and sound, including songs.

And Manu, the creative, is wearing the hats of an actor, director and scriptwriter for it.
