Thea Tolentino recounts wedding proposal in Japan

Newly engaged Kapuso star Thea Tolentino has started her wedding preparations as she embarks on another exciting chapter in her life with her longtime boyfriend, Martin Joshua San Miguel. They got engaged in November 2025 while on vacation in Japan. The couple has been together for four years.

Time flies so fast! Thea first caught the public’s attention when she joined and emerged as one of the champions of the reality talent search, “Protégé: The Battle for the Big Artista Break,” in 2012. She blossomed into a fine young actress and will soon get married.

She shared, “Nitong November tinatanong niya ako kung paano raw iyong mga photoshoot na ginagawa ko ‘pag pumupunta ako sa Japan ‘coz I usually collaborate with photographers. And then, nagulat ako kasi hindi niya naman hilig mag-photoshoot. So, sabi ko, ‘Ay, wow! Gusto mo.’”

Thea didn’t want to think that Martin would already be going to propose that time. “Kasi gusto ko talagang magulat ako.”

She had earlier expected the proposal to take place in Canada, but it didn’t happen. “Sabi niya, hindi niya feel kasi it’s either kami lang daw dapat or with close friends. Hindi nangyari noong Canada. So, sabi ko okay lang naman basta gusto ko magulat ako.”

The actress happily recounted on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” about the special moment that she was hoping for.

“Ako iyong pumili ng lugar kung saan kami mag-po-photoshoot. Ang ganda ng yellow trees. Tapos tinatanong niya ako paulit-ulit, ‘Gusto mo talaga dito?’ Hindi niya maintindihan kung bakit gusto ko sa ilalim ng dilaw na puno. Sabi ko gusto ko mag-photoshoot kami na tumatawid sa kalsada. Doon niya tinimbrehan iyong photographer na, ‘Before we go there, can we take more pictures here?’’’

Martin was already kneeling when Thea turned her head to face him.

“Kahit nagkakutob ako ng slight, iba pa rin pala iyong feeling. Hindi ko ma-express sa words iyong napi-feel ko that moment. Pinipigilan ko na bumuhos ng malala iyong luha ko kasi may pictures. Gusto ko maganda ako. After ng photoshoot, masakit iyong ulo ko kasi pinigilan ko iyong iyak ko.”

Thea said that Martin, a pilot, understands her work in the entertainment industry. Her fiancé is nonchalant, according to the actress. The couple met through Juancho Triviño, who will definitely be part of the wedding entourage.

Thea and Martin have known each other since 2014 or 2015, but they were in their respective relationships at that time. In 2020, they had a double date with Juancho and Joyce Pring.

“That’s how it started. Naudlot siya ng one year kasi feeling ko noong time na iyon hindi pa ako ready na pumasok sa isang relationship.”

Juancho paved the way for Thea and Martin to reconnect, and their beautiful love story began.

I asked Thea at the end of the interview to give a message to herself as a bride-to-be.

“Mas tatagan ang sarili. Wish ko talaga para sa future self ko is sana talagang mahanap ko iyong path na gusto kong puntahan kasi sa ngayon hindi lang para sa sarili ko kundi para sa future family ko na iyong paplanuhin ko,” she replied.
