Netflix Philippines transforms Poblacion into Hawkins

MANILA, Philippines — Welcome to Hawkins, Makati. For three days, Pinoy fans of “Stranger Things” had an “Upside Down Experience” as Netflix Philippines transformed Poblacion in Makati into the iconic fictional town from the hit series to mark its fifth and final season.
Five spots across Poblacion, one of the hippest hangout districts in Metro Manila, were reimagined as some of Hawkins’ most recognizable landmarks.
The creative playground and social club, The Annex House was transformed into the “Byers House” where the iconic “Alphabet Wall” can be found. In Season 1, Will and his mom, Joyce, played by Noah Schnapp and Winona Ryder, respectively, used the Alphabet Wall Christmas lights to communicate with each other. Since then, it has become one of the favorite scenes in the series.
The Fun Roof housed the “Starcourt Mall,” the central location of “Stranger Things” Season 3. It was among the most interactive areas where fans played different games, including Steve’s (Joe Keery) Batting Cage.
Meanwhile, Pepco Parking served as the venue to feature the huge installation of “The Mothergate,” the main gate to the Upside Down that was opened unintentionally by Eleven, Millie Bobby Brown’s character, at the Hawkins National Laboratory.
Gastropub Alamat showcased the Munson Trailer, home of idiosyncratic leader of the Hellfire Club, Eddie Munson, Joseph Quinn’s character, who instantly became the crowd’s favorite and one of the most heartbreaking deaths in Season 4.
And lastly, Apotheka, the home of Vecna in Poblacion, which housed Vecna’s Mind Lair. Visitors were greeted with a huge replica of the main antagonist in the Netflix series.
Each location offered different unique drinks, and fans got an unlimited free photoshoot on these installations from Nov. 27 to 29.
In an Instagram post, “Stranger Things” lead star Millie Bobby Brown turned sentimental as she expressed her gratitude for her role as Eleven in the series.
“This show has given me so much. But most importantly, the most meaningful story to tell, El’s. Thank you to the Duffers for taking a chance on everything you shouldn’t have wanted, a British girl, with a huge family, a lot of energy, a strong point of view, but a heart that would work tirelessly for the character you built. Enjoy volume 1 folks. See you on the right side up,” she wrote in the caption. (See related story on Page C-6.)
The science fiction horror drama created by the Duffer Brothers first premiered in 2016. It revolves around the story of a group of friends as they come together to battle supernatural creatures and government conspiracies.
The first part of the final season of “Stranger Things” is currently streaming on Netflix. Volume two will be released on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and volume three on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31.
See you on the other side, nerds!
